Welcome !

The Vatnabyggð Icelandic Club of Saskatchewan Inc. was formed during a meeting at Eric and Stella Stephanson's home in Elfros on May 13, 1981. Charter members are Eric and Stella, Vala and Ernest Newham, Sigga Sigurdson, Marlyn and Emmer Gudmundson, Guy Gislason, Muriel Stephanson and Doug Stephanson.

The name was chosen because of the significance of the Lakes Settlement, and to appeal to the larger area surrounding Foam Lake, Fishing Lake and the Quill lakes. Vatnabyggð became a chapter of the Icelandic National League on June 17, 1981.

The Club, a member of the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan, fosters and promotes knowledge of the Icelandic language, literature, customs, traditions, and cultural heritage, fosters and promotes harmony and co-operation, and strives to maintain an active and viable association of individuals and organizations with similar purposes and objectives.
