Geirþrúður Anna Guðmundsdóttir in Recital

Geirþrúður Anna Guðmundsdóttir, an Icelandic-American, was born in Reykjavík in 1994 and is a renowned cellist. She made her debut with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra [ISO] in 2013 at which time she also graduated with a soloist degree from the Reykjavík College of Music. She completed her bachelor’s degree [2017] at Northwestern University [Chicago] and recently graduated with a master’s degree from the Julliard School [New York] and is currently an Advanced Diploma candidate at the Royal Academy of Music [London]. She was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago [the training orchestra for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra] during 2027–2018 and has performed as soloist and in chamber music recitals in the United States, Canada, Iceland, Denmark, Holland, France, and the UK, including at Carnegie Hall [New York]. She has won several prestigious competitions and fellowships. In a recent tour within Iceland she performed the six J. S. Bach unaccompanied Cello Suites, which many consider amongst Bach greatest compositions.

She will perform a free recital at 12:10 pm CST, Friday. 1-March-2024, at Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago on Michigan Avenue at Delaware Place cosponsored by Fourth and the Musicians Club of Women in-person as well as live-streamed and YouTube-archived at www.FourthChurch.org. The Musicians Club of Women cosponsors these weekly Friday noon concerts the first Friday of each month and features women performers and/or compositions by women composers.
