Ármann Jakobsson

Professor of medieval Icelandic literature at the University of Iceland

He will be joining the Department of Icelandic Language & Literature at the University of Manitoba to discuss Thorgrim Bottlenose, the warlock of The Saga of Gisli the Soursop. Ármann is a scholar and prolific author of many monographs and articles. He specialises in medieval literature, cultural studies, and folklore in The Faculty of Icelandic and Comparative Cultural Studies at the University of Iceland. In addition to his scholarly works he is an author of fiction, most notably crime fiction in recent years. His talk will draw from themes explored in his book, The Troll Inside You and his article "The Trollish Acts of Þorgrímur the Witch: The Meanings of Troll and Ergi in Medieval Iceland."
