INLNA Reads: A Conversation with Eliza Reid

The Icelandic National League of North America INLNA Reads is pleased to have First Lady of Iceland and co-founder of the Iceland Writers Retreat, Eliza Reid, speak to us directly from Iceland on Wednesday, June 7th, 2023 at 12 PM Eastern/ 11 AM Central/ 10 AM Mountain /9 AM Pacific.

Eliza Reid will be in conversation with INLNA Board member and author Natalie Guttormsson discussing her acclaimed book “Secrets of the Sprakkar: Iceland’s Extraordinary Women and How They are Changing the World,” for which the paperback edition launched in March 2023. If you haven’t picked up a copy of this international bestseller, now is the time.

Secrets of the Sprakkar is a thoughtful and inspiring book, weaving stories of ordinary and extraordinary historical and contemporary women of Iceland into a reflective tapestry of investigation into the pressing gender and equality issues of today. Sprakker is an old Icelandic word meaning ‘outstanding women’ that has fallen out of everyday use in Iceland. Eliza has resurrected the word, and the hope for achieving gender equality to benefit everyone in societies around the world. Already translated into three languages, Eliza Reid’s Secrets of the Sprakkar shares what Iceland has been getting right for many years. (Iceland elected the world’s first female president and passed laws specifically aimed at increasing fairness at work and at home. Secrets of the Sprakkar has been hailed as “a powerful and atmospheric portrait of a tiny country that could lead the way forward for us all.”

Come with your questions and curiosity to the INLNA Reads webinar to hear the charismatic Eliza Read. You can get your copy of Secrets of the Sprakkar: Iceland’s Extraordinary Women and How They are Changing the World at your local bookstore or online.
