Walk to the Rock - Gimli

October 21st, the Gimli Icelandic Canadian Society partners with the New Iceland Heritage Museum for our annual Walk to the Rock
October 21st marks the date in 1875 that the Icelanders first landed on the shores of Lake Winnipeg near Willow Point in their New Iceland Colony Reserve. Every year the Gimli Icelandic Canadian Society marks that date with the annual Walk to the Rock.

We will meet at the Gimli Waterfront Centre at 12:00 noon.

Although we normally walk along the beach all the way to Willow Island, this year we will be doing it a little differently as the water is very high and there is no beach!

Here are two different options:

1) walk from Waterfront Centre to Moonlight Bay/South Beach and then jump in a vehicle to get a ride the rest of the way to the rock

or

2) drive out to and meet everyone at the rock for the short ceremony

Following a short program at the White Rock Pioneer Memorial at Willow Island, everyone is invited back to the Museum's Lady of Lake theatre for hot chocolate/coffee/ tea and treats.
Everyone is welcome! Invite your family members to join you in honouring our ancestors.

Anyone who is available to shuttle people from Moonlight Bay to Willow Island please contact Julianna at executive@nihm.ca
